Conversion tables are necessary because all results must be translated to the Ughent system which counts from 0 to 20.
In the UGhent system one must have 10 or more to get a credit.
Less than 10 is considered as Failed for that course and no credit can be awarded.
19 and 20 are very rarely given in the Ughent system, especially in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It can be given on parts of of a course like exercises.
17 and 18 is considered as being excellent.
14, 15 16 are very good students.
12,13 is good
10,11 is passed.
8 and 9 is failed but can be improved with extra efforts from the student.
Less than 7 is considered as really not qualifying for a credit.
In this view we translated the result such that they are more conform to the Ugent distributions.
The ECTS system actually is a statistically calculated conversion. On small student populations it can give sometimes different outcomes.
But averaged historically and over all students at Ugent it looks like this (so not statistically calculated):
